Our Custom Ring Design Process - 4 Steps from Idea to Ring
You don't need to know exactly what you want. You need a rough direction and 30 minutes. That's enough to start.
Step 1 - Book Your Free Design Consultation
Your first consultation is 30-40 minutes via video call (Zoom or Google Meet). There's no in-person option and no physical studio - the entire process happens online, which means you can start from anywhere in Canada or the US.
Bring whatever you have: Pinterest saves, screenshots, a vague sense of shape (oval, round, solitaire, halo), and a budget range. I'll ask questions about the wearer's style, hand shape, and daily wear habits. By the end of the call, you'll know which stone type I'd recommend, what carat weight fits your budget, and what setting direction makes sense for you.
I've run thousands of these calls. They're not sales calls. There's no obligation and no follow-up pressure if you decide we're not the right fit.
Step 2 - Your Design Takes Shape in CAD (You Approve Before We Build)
After your consultation, my design team produces a photorealistic 3D CAD rendering of your ring. You'll see the exact dimensions, stone placement, setting profile, and metal choice in a detailed rendered image - not a hand sketch. You can rotate it. You can see it from every angle.
This step takes 5-7 business days. If you want adjustments (different prong style, thinner band, adjusted stone height), we revise. We don't pour a single gram of metal or source a single stone until you tell us the design is exactly right. That approval step is non-negotiable.
Step 3 - Choose Your Stone (With the IGI Report in Hand)
Once the CAD is approved, I source your centre stone to match the specifications we agreed on. You'll receive the IGI grading certificate before the stone is set. The report number is laser-inscribed on the stone's girdle and verifiable on IGI's online database. You're not taking my word for the grade - you can check it yourself.
For lab-grown diamonds, I source E or F colour and VS1 clarity as my standard recommendation for most designs. For moissanite, I source Forever One by Charles & Colvard in the colourless grade.

Step 4 - Crafted and Delivered in 4-6 Weeks
Ring casting, stone setting, finishing, and quality inspection take 10-15 business days. Once complete, your ring ships via FedEx Priority, fully insured, with signature required on delivery.
You'll receive a tracking number the day it ships. Your ring arrives ready to propose with.

What Affects the Price of a Custom Ring?
Four variables drive the final price. Stone size (carat weight) is the biggest lever - a 1ct lab-grown diamond costs roughly twice as much as a 0.5ct of the same grade. Stone type matters too: moissanite costs significantly less than lab-grown diamond at any equivalent size. Metal choice adds cost as you move up from 14K to 18K to platinum 950. And setting complexity ranges from a clean four-prong solitaire (simpler, less labor) to a pave-set halo with a split band (more labor, more stone coverage).
